Dear friends and family,

I’m afraid this is going to be a bit long but bear with me; it will be worth it in the end. As you know, I spent a year studying in Cairo, Egypt at the American University in Cairo (AUC). I met lots of amazing people and had great adventures, but there was one person in particular who is was very special. His name is Bob George and we kept in touch after my time in Egypt was over. He is an undergraduate student at AUC and so our continued friendship was all thanks to the wonders of the internet. We had LONG conversations (sometimes up to 12 hours long) and on November 2, 2006 we admitted to each other that we had more than just friendly feelings for each other.

I’m back in Cairo for the semester to spend time with Bob and so we were able to spend our anniversary together for the first time. Bob took me to a wonderful restaurant on Zamalek, an island in the Nile in Cairo, and asked me to be his wife. Naturally, I said yes. After coming back to our flat and sharing a bottle of sparkling wine with our flat mates, we called our parents as well as a few others. We would have loved to call everyone, but we’re in Egypt and that would have gotten a bit expensive. We are probably breaking all kinds of rules of etiquette with this e-mail, but we just wanted to share our news with everyone ASAP because we are SO excited!

In answer to the question we were asked most last night, we do not know for sure when we will actually get married. We would love to do it this summer but are not sure how well that will work with less than a year to get everything together and both of us being in school.
